I came across this field of rare rusting vintage cars used in the past as a water dam in a lonely stretch of I-15 near Nephi, Utah. From the 1920s to the 1970s, municipalities and farmers across North America repurposed hundreds of old vehicles as makeshift dams, levees, and erosion control barriers. They drove rusted cars and trucks into river bends and shorelines, allowing silt and debris to build up and reinforce the banks.
