Slab City Photo Masterprint #10
Eclectic 35mm black and white image of the eccentric art in this unincorporated, off-the-grid alternative lifestyle community in the in the Salton Trough area of the Sonoran Desert in Imperial County, California.
Story:
This abstract shoot was inspired by Hippies I met while photographing the Salton Sea and ghost-resort town of Bombay Beach. While picking up drinks in the town of Niland for the several-hour trip back to Los Angeles, these Hippies explained how this location was once a World War II training base that was demolished, only leaving the concrete slabs, i.e., “Slab City.” Alternative lifestyle snowbirds began occupying the location with RV’s and a focus on eclectic art, creating the community that exists today!
