Story:
The name "Mexican Hat" comes from a curiously sombrero-shaped rock outcropping on the northeast edge of town; the rock measures 60 feet wide by 12 feet high. The "Hat" has two rock climbing routes ascending it and has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names. The settlement was founded by E.L.
